Weekly Update 3/10/2017

March 10th, 2017

Culture Forum – Faithful Presence: Saturday, March 11th, 5:30pm
The Bible repeatedly calls us to care for and welcome refugees, but what does that actually look like for a local church living in Salt lake City, Utah? On March 11th at 5:30pm, we will be gathering together to answer that very question. What does it mean for the church to show up in this need? How can we as individuals show up? The night will include various talks, a panel discussion, art from refugee camps in Jordan, and most importantly an opportunity to live out your passion for refugees in a way that matters. If you are in need of childcare during this event please register your child(ren) HERE! We will only be able to accommodate children who have been registered prior to the event, so thanks in advance for getting them signed up!

Red Light Ministry Donations
We’re collecting donations for our Red Light Ministry Outreach. We need hygiene kit items: gallon size ziplock bags, travel size deodorant, travel size body wash, razors, feminine hygiene products, individually packaged wet wipes, granola bars, bottled water, etc. Thank you for all the warm clothing donations, we are stocked up on that and have more of a need for hygiene items at this time. We will have a bin to collect donations in the lobby at Missio this Sunday. To learn more about Red Light Ministry, please click HERE or email redlightoutreach.slc@gmail.com

Lost and Found
Our lost and found is full of items left at the building. For the next two weeks we will put the lost and found bins at the “Welcome Cafe” so anyone can go look to see if they left something at Missio. After two weeks we will be donating the women’s clothing to Red Light Ministry and everything else will be donated to a local thrift store. There are some really nice water bottles, coffee mugs, books and clothes in the lost and found so make sure to look through it this Sunday if you’re missing something.

The Peoples Theology Episode 5 – Get the Hell Out
In our second episode on hell, we continue our conversation with Josh Butler, author of Skeletons in God’s Closet. Josh walks us through 4 major paradigm shifts that we need to have, in order to see and understand hell as the Biblical narrative actually presents it. Which, as we will see, is radically different than our caricatures often make it out to be. These paradigm shifts help us understand hell and most importantly they help us understand what it is God is doing throughout His story. Listen and subscribe HERE
