If you’re like us, sometimes approaching strangers can feel awkward and/or uncomfortable. What if they don’t WANT to be approached? And how does someone go from introductions and small-talk to sharing the gospel? The Liberty Wells House Church has been talking about this for a few weeks, and would like to share some ideas they’ve put together for demonstrating Christ’s hospitality before and during our Easter feast. You might want to pray over & discuss your own ideas as well! How would YOU articulate what you believe with someone you’ve just met, or with a non-believer who accepts your invitation to our Easter feast?
Examples of ways to invite people to Missio’s Easter feast:
To a neighbor, in person:
What are you guys doing for Easter?
… Our church has a big celebration and feast if you wanna join us.
…. It will start at 10:30am, and you could ride with us if you want. It would be fun if you wanted to join us.
To a non-Christian friend via text:
Hey! I know you guys don’t do the church thing much, but our church has a big celebration and feast thing every year and you’re welcome to come if you’re interested. Would be fun to have you there. Everybody’s welcome.
If they seem open offer to pick them up to make it easier for them to come/find it/feel comfortable to arrive with someone they know. If you have kids, let them know it is okay to invite their friends to Easter, and that their friends’ parents can call you for information. Be available to offer them a ride.
To non-believer friends & family:
I signed up to help with ___ in preparing for our Easter service at church. Do you want to come?
I am bringing food to church for Easter. Do you want to go shopping /prepare food together?
To co-workers, neighbors, and family when just trying to be intentional with general conversations around Easter:
Did you have any Easter traditions growing up?
Do you have any sort of spiritual background? Was that positive or not so much growing up?
Where are you at on your spiritual journey now?
Well hey, if you ever want to chat more about God, Jesus, spiritual things, I’d totally be up for that
What do you think about the story of Easter? Like, Jesus being God, dying on the cross, resurrecting?
What do you believe about God?
What was your religious background as a child?
Was your experience positive, negative, or neutral?
Where are you now in your spiritual journey?
Do you have a spiritual belief of any kind?
What words would you use to describe your life spiritually?
If God gave you the opportunity to ask him one question, what would you ask him, and why?
Have you ever been burned or turned off by religious people? If so, how?
What do you understand the core message of Christianity to be?
What is most important to you? Why?
Who has had the greatest impact on your life spiritually? Why?
What don’t you believe?
How would you describe your belief in God?
Have you ever met anyone or experienced anything that made God seem real to you?
Has anything dramatic happened in your life that has convinced you that God is real?
Who is Jesus to you?
Where would you say you are at with God?
Do you find yourself moving toward God, away from God or staying about the same?
Are you satisfied with where you are at or do you desire more?
What would you say is your greatest need spiritually at this time?
If you could ask God one question, what would it be?
If God could ask you one question, what do you thing he might ask?
If a friend asked you how to become a Christian, what would you tell them?
On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your desire to know God personally?
What do you think is most important to God? Why?
Do you believe in a heaven and a hell?
If you were to die tonight, how sure are you that you would enjoy eternal life, that is, a
never-ending relationship with God? Why?
If you were wrong about what you believe, would you want to know?
Can I tell you a little of my story?
Can I show you what has really helped me?
Can I share with you what I have experienced in my relationship with God?
Would you mind if I shared with you a 4-point outline that explains simply the main message of the Bible? I would love to get your opinion about it.”
“Would you mind if I shared with you 4-points from the Bible that had a profound impact in my life.”
(share how you came to believe). . . can I share with you what I came to believe (what someone share with me) and get your response?
