With the Grain of the Universe

Summary

Following Easter, we enter a season known as “Eastertide” in which we continue to celebrate and witness the resurrection of Jesus. Easter marks the day, but the resurrection changes everything and invites us to live in a resurrected reality that is radically at odds with old reality/order of sin and death. As Christians, we’ve been formed into a community and called to “witness” to the resurrection of Jesus. Our lives, words, practices are to point towards the work and way of Jesus.

Title: With the Grain of the Universe

We believe God created a good world filled with love and abundance. Sin mars God’s creation by acting against God’s good and creative intentions but the resurrection of Jesus is about restoring and renewing creation. The Grain of the Universe is God’s love and sin, brokenness, and pain occur when we run against the grain. But the resurrection reveals and restores the grain and invites us to be a people who witness to the truth of God.

Big Questions

  • What defines truth/goodness/power/ in the universe?

  • Is it the old order of sin and death with its stories of violence, scarcity, and control?

  • Or is it the reality revealed in the cross and resurrection of Jesus?
