Creating art is an incredible way to connect with the original Creator. For the Story of the Bible Mural project, the team wanted to provide an opportunity for all members of our Missio Dei community to be involved in the process of creating. Missio kids and adults alike were able to participate in the work, giving them a connection with the story of the Bible, the artwork about it, and the church home that houses this mural.

The mural team created videos to send out to Missio Kids every week, teaching them about different stories of the Bible. In response, Missio Kids created drawings, such as the drawings shown here (see Figures 1-4). The mural team then traced these drawings and adapted them as needed, creating a cohesive Story of the Bible mural design line drawing (see Figure 5). This line drawing was printed out on a giant canvas, ready to paint!

On a bright Sunday in May, we held a Story of the Bible Mural painting party! During the church service, Missio Kids were invited to participate in painting the mural. After the service ended, parents joined (see Figure 6). Because of this model, all members of the community had the opportunity to participate and take responsibility for the creation of the mural.
After this painting party, the mural team filled in paint where needed and did a few touch-ups. They also outlined the elements of the mural with black calligraphic lines to make each individual’s art stand out (see Figure 7). After completing the painting process, the printers hemmed the edges, giving the mural a clean, finished edge. The final mural will be displayed for all to see in the hallway between the lobby and the Missio Dei cafe (see Figure 8 below).
The mural team would like to thank every person who helped for their enthusiasm about this project and involvement in the creation process! We hope that every person involved feels proud of their hard work and confident in their future artistic endeavors. We also pray that this mural connects the members of our community, especially Missio Kids, to the Story of the Bible!
