God is telling his story. When times are good and our hearts are full, we forget about God. We either intentionally or unintentionally believe we don’t need him, we just need ourselves and our skill. He uses the story of a prostitute and a faithful husband to show his consistent love for us in the face of our unfaithfulness.

Night of Prayer and Story: Date Changed to February 9th
This month’s night of prayer and story will be centered around Missio Dei’s upcoming trip to and future involvement in Haiti.  We will be able to spend the evening in prayer and worship alongside the folks from our community who will be leaving for Haiti the next day.  We hope you can join us!

MADE

Super Bowl Bash
Everyone is invited February 5th to the Hillcrest Space for a Super Bowl Bash.  The game starts around 4:30 but we will fire up the grill around 4.  If you do come please bring something to throw on a the grill and your favorite “football party” side to share with others.  Soda, ice, plates, napkins, and  hot grill will be provided!  Feel free to invite your friends!  

Gospel Defined (Men’s Breakfast)
As Christ followers we use all kinds of words that we may or may not pay a lot of attention to.  We’ll throw out words like Gospel or Calling and expect others to either understand them or to understand our definition of them.  These terms become a type of accepted “church” slang and can soon depart from any type of meaning that relates to scripture.  This can have a drastic effect on our relationships with our neighbors, our families, our friends, and even interpersonally.  Beginning in February we (the Men of Missio Dei) will gather on the first Friday of every month to share breakfast, get to know one another more, and dig into scripture to see how responsibly we are communicating.  The gathering will be led by Jeremy Cox and Kyle Costello and will be held at the Hillcrest Space. We will begin with Breakfast at 6 am and then begin our discussion at 6:30.  We will finish up by 7:30 for those that need to get to work.  Keep checking the update for more information.

Jesus reconciled his followers to his Father. He lived a life of reconciliation and calls us to do the same. It’s not easy. Our pasts are challenging and sometimes less than ideal.

Hello Missio Dei,

This Sunday, because of a flood, we will be moving from our current location of our worship gathering at the Post theater to our old location at the Post Chapel.  The address for the Post Chapel is 120 Fort Douglas Blvd.  We will still meet at 10:30.  Missio Kids will also be moved to the University Guest House which is next door to the Post Chapel.  If you don’t know where that is just see a greeter at the chapel and they will guide you over there.

There are two ways that you can help us out with this location change.  First, can you please pass along this info to anyone you know that may go to Missio.  You can repost the link on Facebook, retweet it on Twitter, or email it to a friend.  The second way  that you can help us out is by bringing a folding chair or two.  We think that we will have enough chairs but if you could throw a folding chair in your trunk that would be awesome!  Then if we need it we will let you know.

Throughout his ministry Jesus often engages and teaches his followers over a meal. He turns the simple environment of a dinner table into a holy space where he reveals the beauty of Kingdom. Our study will look at specific meals to see who he is teaching, what he is teaching, and how that affects us today.

Avenues House Church
The Avenues House Church will be meeting at the Missio Dei Community Space (170 E. 1st Ave.) this week (January 8th). We’ll be back at the Weiseth house the following week, January 15th.

Monday Night Pipes
Men of Missio Dei Community, you are invited to Nash’s house on January 23rd from 6:30-9 PM for “Monday Night Pipes.”  It will be a time for the fellas to hang out, smoke pipes, get to know each other, and pray together.  Please bring a snack and/or drink to share and email nash@nashmartinez.com for more information.

Holding Out HELP
Holding Out HELP has asked for some volunteers to help make their fundraiser/awareness night on Saturday, March 3rd a success.  This local organization is working tirelessly to serve individuals and families desiring to leave polygamist communities, and at this time, especially those considering leaving or being forced to leave the FLDS community in Colorado City, AZ.  

The organization is in need of volunteers to help out in any of the following areas: Food, Ticket Sales, Marketing, Silent Auction, and Decorations.
