Last minute location change for tonights prayer gathering. Instead of meeting at the Post Chapel we will be meeting right next door at the University Guest House in their downstairs conference room. Its the same place that where the Mens and Women’s forums were held and where Missio Kids meets weekly. Please pass along the info!

This Thursday, June 30th, we will have a night of prayer and story. We will be meeting at the University Guest House and Conference Center, next to the Post Chapel, in meeting room C. Doors will open for personal prayer at 6 and corporate prayer will begin at 6:30. Childcare will be provided.

Orphan Care

The above link is to a paper that Missio Dei Community member Howie Smith wrote last summer.  It goes well with our sermon from Exodus 22:21 – 23:9.

As God reveals his Law to the Israelites he is very specific on how the marginalized of this world are to be treated.  Israel is to love, serve, and protect the orphan, widow, and foreigner so that God’s heart of compassion and mercy can be known.  Throughout scripture this remains at the center of God’s will for his people.  They are to be people of justice, people who remember who they were before he rescued them, and people who recognize that he served himself the justice that all of humankind deserved.

Through watching certain independent, mainstream, and art films, we will enter into a discussion of spirituality that many of these films raise.

We’ve entered into the part of Exodus where it seems like God is levying rule after rule on the Israelites. In light of the rules, more than ever, we see our need for Christ because we can’t keep the law. Even worse, our greatest efforts to keep the law would elevate the law above Christ and make us idolaters. In the midst of these laws we see God showing grace in strange, unexpected ways.
